The Vision
The
Foundation for International Development Assistance (FIDA) was founded
in 1984 by Jack and Anne Wall. Its primary activities and projects
were launched in St. Michel, Haute St. Marc, Dessables, Fond Baptiste
and later in Chauffard, where agricultural cooperatives were initiated.
The vision was to develop economic activity and long-term sustainability
among the rural poor in these areas.
The Philosophy
FIDA's philosophy
has always been to perceive itself as a facilitator, enabling communities
to realize productivity and eventually sustainability. Our commitment
is to undertake long-term, sustainable development work in developing
countries using the productive agricultural cooperative model. That
is, fostering a grass roots movement where the members of the community
cooperatively plan, control, and ultimately benefit from one another
and the community. We seek to encourage the competence of people
with respect to their needs and their right to self-determination.
This is reflected in our mission statement, which is the touchstone
of all FIDA programming.
