Mission Statement

We believe in the inherent right of every person to own self-respect and self-worth. We believe that dignity is achieved through a cultivated ability to provide for ourselves out families and others, and achieved through the recognition and acceptance of God. We endeavor to encourage self-sufficiency in Haiti; to work at the grassroots level to introduce appropriate technology and training; to bring hope, encouragement and resources to help communities work out solutions to their adversities.

The Vision

The Foundation for International Development Assistance (FIDA) was founded in 1984 by Jack and Anne Wall. Its primary activities and projects were launched in St. Michel, Haute St. Marc, Dessables, Fond Baptiste and later in Chauffard, where agricultural cooperatives were initiated. The vision was to develop economic activity and long-term sustainability among the rural poor in these areas.

The Philosophy

FIDA's philosophy has always been to perceive itself as a facilitator, enabling communities to realize productivity and eventually sustainability. Our commitment is to undertake long-term, sustainable development work in developing countries using the productive agricultural cooperative model. That is, fostering a grass roots movement where the members of the community cooperatively plan, control, and ultimately benefit from one another and the community. We seek to encourage the competence of people with respect to their needs and their right to self-determination. This is reflected in our mission statement, which is the touchstone of all FIDA programming.
