Wall's International Guest House

To the family and friends of Wall’s International Guest House,

Today we remember those who were lost and those who were affected by the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th, 2010.

Two years may have passed since the earthquake, but our grief and loss remains ever present. However, such grief has not prevented us from moving forward.

As you know, Haitians are resilient and proud people who are determined to build a better life for themselves and their families. With your understanding and continued support we will be able to achieve such a goal.

We also wish to take this opportunity to send our appreciation to you all for supporting Haiti in such challenging times and for being patient with us as we rebuild the Guest House facilities.

WELCOME TO WALL’S INTERNATIONAL GUEST HOUSE

We are pleased to be your place to stay when you come to this beautiful little western half of the island of Hispanola. Ideally located about a fifteen-minute drive from the Toussaint Louverture Airport in Port au Prince, we offer simple accommodation, good food, warm hospitality and our best service. We are known to be a cheerful respite for mission teams, medical teams, teaching and pastoral teams, adoptive families, volunteers, artists, photographers, journalists and adventure tourists. Our guests arrive at our door from all over the world to stay for durations from one night to several months. Our rates are reasonable and special rates are available for long-term guests who are here for research, mission or adoption processes.

WIGH Pool

Although the earthquake of January 12, 2010 devastated us physically (the collapse of the principal building) and emotionally (the deaths of three guests and two staff), we are rising from the rubble and rebar. There is no doubt that the spirit of the guest house, its tradition of providing a safe and comfortable home away from home for people from all over the world, has given us the energy to move forward. It is you, our guests, who have faithfully returned, despite the new challenges of Haiti, to lend healing and restoration to our country, that makes us smile and march on.

All the rubble is now removed. The building by the pool was inspected by a team of engineers and approved to be reparable. All repairs are complete and considered safe to accommodate guests. Several additional rooms and bathrooms have been built and the garage-turned-dining room has undergone a gradual transformation. The entire perimeter has been heightened and restored and the pool is sparkling clear and refreshing. Although we can now comfortably accommodate 50 guests, we continually host up to 60 and more with the addition of large, spacious tents. Yes, there have been still a number of you who actually prefer tents. And we are happy to say that we can still oblige you!

WIGH Room

Our standard rate is $40 (plus 10% tax) per person per night, which includes buffet breakfast and dinner. Filtered water, Internet and all our usual services continue to be available for you.

We know that Haiti remains a country of increased challenges and concerns. Many of you understand that it is these challenges that the international media prefers to focus on. Earthquakes aside, we do experience political instability, hurricanes, and things like cholera outbreaks. However, these are often overplayed in terms of their actual affects on visitors. We encourage you to check with us whenever you have concerns as to the safety precautions necessary before travelling or considering cancelling your trip. It is at these times, that Haiti needs you more, not less.

We now accept Visa and MasterCard. Surcharges will apply.
